Contact Our TeamIt depends on your existing entitlement and the combined weight of your vehicle and trailer. Category B+E covers cars towing trailers, C1+E covers medium goods vehicles with a trailer, and D1+E covers minibuses with a trailer. If you’re not sure which applies to you, our team can review your current licence and advise.
In many cases, yes — depending on your current entitlement and the weight you want to tow, you may need to pass a category B+E, C1+E, or D1+E practical trailer test before DVLA can add the entitlement to your licence.
Once you’ve passed, DVLA adds the relevant towing category to your driving licence record and issues an updated photocard showing your new entitlement.
You’ll need your current UK driving licence (with the relevant base category), your practical trailer test pass certificate, proof of identity and UK address, and a recent passport-style photograph.
